It doesn't matter what offensive system you run whether it be motion, set plays, or ball screen action the keys are the same -- your spacing, your pace of play, and your teams ability to screen.

In this on court clinic demonstration, Ben Jacobson takes you through two drills he uses to emphasize the main aspects of spacing, pace and screening. The goal of these drills is to force help - get the second defender to come out of position, which frees up a teammate for a shot. The sooner you can get the floor spaced, the sooner you force the defense to help - and they have farther to go, which creates spacing you need for a good look at the basket.

These drills start 3-on-3 half court where the players are working on execution in these areas by performing down screens, UCLA screens and the back screens on one side of the floor. Keeping the players in a confined space promotes communication by your players and forces them to wait for their screen. You then add the ability to score while keeping score. Coach Jacobson then progresses into 4-on-4 half court where players are paired on each side of the floor and must work together.

Jacobson then moves into some of his team's transition offense quick hitters. He demonstrates four quick hitters and then has the players demonstrate the plays 5-on-0 and then 5-on-5. Proper spacing opens up a low post shot, a quick two-man game and other actions off your set plays. Each time he builds on the plays by having the players transition up and down the floor; coaching them through the action while stressing spacing, pace and screening action. He also shares two quick hitters he uses out of a box set.

He finishes by answering questions on screening, handling switching defenses, play calling, getting the ball inside and offensive philosophy.

This DVD will give you insight and ideas that can be used in any offensive system to open up the floor to give your players some freedom to play.

Jeff Lebo: Attacking Zone Defenses

Jeff Lebo: Attacking Zone Defenses

* Always have some ideas on how to face the zone defense
* Make your zone attacks as simple as possible
* Employ the "hot potato" method for ball movement

Watch Live footage: Attacking Zone Defenses - Basketball -- Championship Productions, Inc.

with Dave Lebo,
former Auburn University Assistant Coach;
1988 National High School Coach of the Year

Dave Lebo, the father of head coach Jeff Lebo, is considered one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in the state of Pennsylvania. He directed the boys program at Carlisle (Pa.) High School, all but two years from 1977-98 and compiled a remarkable 365-149 overall record. While at Carlisle, Dave Lebo guided his teams to four consecutive State Championships.

In this on-court clinic presentation, Coach Lebo takes you through 15 principles for attacking zone defense that he incorporated through his successful career. These principles are what he used throughout his career in building a simple zone attack to go against a 2-3 zone, as well as an attack to go against various other zones. His principles include, be unselfish, beat the zone down the floor, spacing-spread the zone, ball movement, player movement, penetrate the zone, use a shot fake and pass fake, cutters, develop an inside-outside attack, flatten the zone, overload the zone, be shot ready, screen the zone and attack the offensive glass.

Lebo moves to the court and, in a 5-on-0 demonstration, provides for you his two basic attacks versus zone defense. The Balance Attack and the Overload Attack. The Balanced Attack is used versus the 2-3 zone. Lebo covers each position's responsibilities, as well as movement according to a pass or cut. This simple and effective attack covers basic movement, post movement, use of the short corner, cutters, high post and the skip pass. Lebo also takes you through his Overload Attack versus any other zone which includes the 1-3-1, 1-2-2, 3-2, and match-ups. He finishes talking about coaches needing to have 3-5 set plays to run against a zone along with these two basic attacks and shows a set Coach Dean Smith gave him called Away.

With an increase in teams running multiple defensive systems, teams are running more zones at you. If you need to develop or improve your zone attack, Coach Dave gives you many ideas and concepts to incorporate to you program.

former Auburn University Head Coach

Get your best players in position to be successful and improve the timing of your set plays! Jeff Lebo shares effective set plays that work against man or zone.

Lebo calls his base series the B Series. This series is designed for defeating man defense. All of the plays are demonstrated 5-on-0 on the court. Using this set, your plays will all look alike initially so the defense won't know what's coming.

Lebo delivers zone offense options for the B series. He also includes four additional sets that can be used versus man or zone.

These sets are versatile enough that they can be run out front or from out of bound situations on the side or under the basket.

Add variety to your offense this season with this excellent series of set plays.

Run more to put pressure on your opponent's defense - not allowing them to get set.

In this on-court presentation, Frank Martin shares his coaching philosophy on the offensive end in his early offense attack. Martin believes to be a successful running team that you must run all of the time - not just when you have the lead. He views his role as a coach as getting the right players, the right shots, from the right spots. This philosophy allows the coach to entrust the players with more responsibility and control, which results in quick decision-making and quick plays.

Coach Martin's broken floor drills deals with the number's situations teams face during a game, whether it is 2-on1, 3-on2, 4-on-3, or 5-on-4. He demonstrates his 2-on-1 continuous drill and his 3-on-2 continuous drill. These lead into his 3-on-2 to 4-on-3 to 5-on-4 to 5-on-5 transition drill where scores are kept for offensive baskets as well as defensive stops. These scores are important for enforcing consequences at the end of practice. Throughout each drill he shares the rules and goals and how they translate to the broader game.

From the team drills, Martin goes into his individual breakdown drills for effective early offense. He takes you through drill work for the point guards, the wings and finally the big men. In each breakdown area, he goes through each player's rules, goals, and options within the early offense scheme.

He finishes with a look at a few of the secondary break plays he runs at Kansas State. These quick hitters include the Carolina action as well as ball screen actions.

Running a quick, early offense gives the defense no other choice but to foul in order to slow down the game. Coach Martin's team averaged 37 free throw attempts per game last season due in large part to their running style in early offense.

If you are looking for new ways to get your team running, then you need to take a look at the philosophies, drills, and actions in this DVD.

Get more lay-ups, free throws and open shots against zone defenses.

In this on-court presentation, Matt Painter outlines all of the important elements, Xs and Os, and rules from his zone offense, which contains motion principles with rules. His teams go from transition offense into motion offense versus man or zone defense.

Coach Painter demonstrates the rules and principles by taking the players through 3-on-0, 4-on-0 and finally 5-on-0. See how Painter teaches his players to utilize shot fakes, pass fakes, misdirection dribble and the rip and go to successfully execute the Cut-Thru Zone offense. The players must keep 12-15ft spacing, cut to the high post, speed or hard cut to the short corner, constantly change their movement, and use the misdirection dribble to move the defense. Benefits from these actions include natural overloads that create open shots and it will constantly put your players in offensive rebound position.

After building the player movement, Painter coaches the players in a 5-on-5 setting versus a 2-3 defense while then incorporating the use of the ball screen.

If you are looking for new ideas for attacking zone defenses this DVD will give your players many cutting options, using the dribble effectively, while also feeding the post and looking for cutters.

4X Time National "Coach of the Year,"
Winningest Active Coach in College Basketball

No college team runs the fast break as well as Roy Williams' North Carolina Tar Heels.
In this on-court clinic presentation, Coach Williams begins by discussing the advantages and philosophy of his offensive system. He teaches his teams to get the basketball out quickly on a made basket or a missed shot to look for their primary break first and then into secondary break. If they cannot get a quick look ahead for an easy basket they go into one of their multiple half court options and plays. Coach Williams shows you:
  • how to set up the break after a made or missed basket
  • each player's position on the court
  • explains the "why" and the "how" to use the different options in the half court
You will see eight set plays and options off the secondary break in the half court that can be used to take advantage of your opponent in transition. These plays will give you options for every player on the court. Use these plays to negate the defense's ability to get set, which leads to many easy baskets.

Williams covers his three offensive rules against a set defense--you must make three passes unless a layup is open; the ball must change sides of the floor; and you must give the defense a chance to make a mistake. Williams uses 5-on-5 play to point out important teaching.

This instructional DVD gives you the set plays that can be applied to any team's playbook and can help your team run and score "all night."

FAST BREAK OFFENSE
One of the toughest things to do on defense is to get back on transition. See how Pearl and his team put as much "pressure on the rim" as possible. Pearl teaches the fast break using breakdown drills and shares several of the options his players have on the offensive end of the court. He also emphasizes taking smart shots and trusting your teammates to rebound. This philosophy has helped Tennessee become one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country.

PRESSURE DEFENSE
If you want to have freedom on the fast break, you need to create possessions on defense. Coach Pearl does this by using full-court pressure. He breaks down his defense starting with ball entry and emphasizing deflections and trapping.

DRILLS
All of Coach Pearl's drills are meant to teach and enforce his brand of up-tempo play. Are you looking to shore up your transition offense and defense? If so, Pearl's passing and shooting drills and situational and build-up drills on defense will provide you with a great library to build from. back-to-back MVC Champs (2009-2010)
Improve key basketball skills and concepts in your program using 14 of Ben Jacobson's best offensive and defensive drills.

SHOOTING & SCREENING:
He shares a few of his team's effective shooting drills by incorporating his motion offense screening actions to get his players to develop communication, reading screens and working on screening while getting shots. In these 3-man shooting drills, the players are getting two shots out of each screening action including the diagonal down screen and elbow screen. Coach Jacobson demonstrates his screening philosophy as well as the options his players have after reading the defense.

He then goes into his 2-minute layup drill, which is a full court drill used to work on passing and catching as well as conditioning.

DEFENSE:
In the defensive drills segment, Jacobson shares his defensive philosophy which is 80 percent Pack-Line defense and 20 percent ball denial-push, sideline-rotate baseline.

He takes you through the alley drill, which is used to work on defending the ball without fouling and containing the dribble.

He moves into his 3-on-3 defensive shell drill that his teams work on every day and focuses on the early help position and guarding up in the gap to stop dribble penetration. He uses this drill to build his defensive fundamentals including angle of approach, closeouts, guarding the dribble and help rotation. Train your players to set the defense in all situations and force the offense to play into a set defense as often as possible.

REBOUNDING:
In his numbers rebounding drill, Jacobson shows you how your players can ride with the opponent away from the basket to create space to gather a "clean" rebound.

The session ends with his defensive disadvantage drill which puts all the fundamentals worked on earlier together in a scramble situation.

Improve your practices this season with this excellent selection of drills and concepts!

In this on-court clinic presentation, Chris Mack gives you a comprehensive look at the inner workings of a successful ball screen offense.

Coach Mack will show you how a ball screen offense can:

•Limit turnovers and make plays by keeping the ball in your best players hands
•Force your opponent's post players to defend away from the basket
•Gain rebounding advantages, get open shots, get to the free throw line more often and create mismatches using rotations

Learn the most important concepts you must teach the dribbler and the screener: Creating separation, getting to the level of the screen, how to hold the screen and the three types of screens.

Using a 2-on-2 demonstration, Mack shows you the five defense attacks most commonly used to defend the ball screen. For each of these scenarios, Mack takes you through two ways to attack the defense and provides the ball handler and screener reads and passes.

To help you incorporate ball screens into your offense, Mack delivers ball screen plays in a 5-on-0 setting.

Using this effective ball screen offense, Coach Mack was the winningest first-year head coach in Division I in 2009-10 and the only rookie head coach to lead his team into the 2010 NCAA Tournament field.
